World of Wunders, part three
The final third of this week’s vocal-identification quiz brings together perhaps the most difficult-to-name sopranos offering Sieglinde’s “O hehrstes Wunder!” from Die Walküre.
These 30 or so measures wouldn’t seem so terribly difficult, rising to just four brief high As, yet the passage’s intense and exposed musical-dramatic importance has challenged even the most experienced Wagnerian soprano.
