For a while last year I went through an intense “Ernani involami” phase and collected many live renditions. From that cache I’ve assembled 18 sopranos performing the final minute or so of the aria—the 12 measures illustrated below.
Offered is a combination of easily identifiable divas alongside some puzzlers. I found it fascinating to hear how each deals with these soaring phrases—adding, subtracting, avoiding.
