Update: Anna Netrebko has withdrawn from the Met’s Norma scheduled for opening night 2017, her publicist and the Met’s press office have confirmed to La Cieca.
Earlier: “Russian soprano Anna Netrebko has withdrawn with regret from Bellini’s masterpiece, Norma, due to open The Royal Opera’s 2016/17 Season in September.” La Cieca is currently following up to see if Anna’s statement “I have come to the unfortunate conclusion my voice has evolved in a different direction” is meant to be interpreted narrowly or broadly; in particular., whether she will withdraw from her announced participation in a new Met Norma as well.
