This was Caballé’s US Debut as a last minute substitute for Marilyn Horne and the vocalism is quite astonishing. This performance must be heard for the breath control. The Carnegie Hall audience is enraptured. She recieved a 25 minute standing ovation. And the rest of the cast isn’t shabby. She made a studio recording soon afterwards but the electricity of this live performance is missing.

Camille adds, “Listen to Caballé’s Carnegie Hall debut for the RITE way to end an opera when you inadvertently poison your own son.”
