Next season I’m excited for Alessandro
This season marks the third annual visit of The English Concert to American shores, this time with a production of Handel’s Alessandro.
John Ryan
John Ryan, known on Parterre Box as H_Badger, is a Pittsburgh-based statistician whose love of opera began early - his mother took him to Madama Butterfly, and by seventh grade he was in the boys’ chorus for Tosca. After a long day of crunching data, he enjoys walking his dog, joining Parterre Box live chats, and any theater seat in New York City that has ample leg room.
Some filth or dementia from HBadger
What to our wondering ears should appear, but a 40-track Jonas Kaufmann Christmas album?
A favorite bass performance from H_Badger
The Met in HD proved to be a major gateway drug for me, showing me my first Don Carlo in 2010.
Back to school
Time to Act at Pittsburgh Opera effectively employs Greek tragedy to explore the all-too-common tragedies haunting schools across the United States.
The best thing I saw in 2025 was Giulio Cesare
In the spring, The English Concert completed a three-city tour performing a concert version of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto.
Pride in your work
Pittsburgh Opera’s Fellow Travelers delivers a timely story with detail and care.
I’ll take the fall
The days are getting shorter, but you can keep the prattle going this fall’s Talk of the Town! You will, you can, you must join in the discussion about: Great mezzo soprano performances (October),
Gained in translation (November), Teleport me back to… (December).
