It’s not a sure thing, only a “perhaps,” but it’s the most exciting Regie news La Cieca has heard all season. According to an interview with Alexander Pereira, intendant of the Salzburg Festival, published in the current issue of Opera magazine, this summer’s new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by parterre fave Stefan Herheim “will also go to Paris and, perhaps, New York.”

The assumption here is that the Met wants to see what the production looks like complete and on stage before committing to programming it. With a new Tristan already on the roster for 2016-2017, La Cieca guesses that the earliest the Meistersinger could show up on the Met schedule would be a year later, i.e., the 2017-2018 season that is currently in the planning stage.
