The opening night of the Canadian Opera Company’s 2019-20 season was all about the Wilsons.
Too bad, then, that this season’s tossed flower was a bit of a wilted one.
How do you like your Carmen? Mezzo or soprano? Flirtatious? Confrontational? Smolderingly sexy?
The turntable set looks much the same from any angle: gutted concrete tenements and perilous alleys, instantly recognizable as a scene of urban guerrilla mayhem.
