Now, not quite a fortnight since details were leaked here on parterre, New York City Opera Renaissance has officially announced casting for their impending production of Tosca.  

Conductor Pacien Mazzagatti leads the New York City Opera Orchestra and two casts of international singers.  Soprano Kristin Sampson (Floria Tosca), tenor James Valenti (Mario Cavaradossi) and baritone Michael Chioldi (Baron Scarpia) are featured on Wednesday, January 20 (7:00PM), Friday, January 22 (7:30PM) and Saturday, January 23 (8:00PM).

Soprano Latonia Moore (Tosca; role debut), tenor Raffaele Abete (Cavaradossi; American stage debut) and baritone Carlo Guelfi (Scarpia) perform on Thursday, January 21 (7:00PM), Saturday, January 23 (2:00PM) and Sunday, January 24 (4:00PM).

La Cieca

James Jorden (who wrote under the names "La Cieca" and "Our Own JJ") was the founder and editor of parterre box. During his 20 year career as an opera critic he wrote for the New York Times, Opera, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America and the New York Post. He also raised his voice in punditry on National Public Radio. From time to time he directed opera, including three unsuccessful productions of Don Giovanni. He also contributed a regular column on opera for the New York Observer. James died in October 2023.
