La Cieca hears that Bartlett Sher has already signed a new three-opera deal with the Met. The director, who completes his first trifecta with next season’s Le Comte Ory, will reportedly return to the company in 2013-2014 for two productions, one of which will be that new Nico Muhly work, Two and a Half Men or whatever it’s called.
The following season (2014-2015) Sher will be responsible for a new Cavalleria/Pagliacci starring Marcelo Àlvarez. Oh, and the other 2013-2014 project? A reliable source inside the Met insists that this season will see the Met’s first new production of La bohème in over three decades.
When asked for a comment on these projects, veteran regista Franco Zeffirelli had this to say:
