Herrn Tristan bringe meinen Gruss

Our dear friends over at Opera Depot are slashing prices in half on all their recordings of Tristan und Isolde in honor of the music drama’s 150th anniversary. And there’s a free “Liebestod” compilation download too!

  • Thanks for the heads-up, La Cieca.

Is it typical of Opera Depot that none of the recordings are post-1980? Mind you, this observation is based one a cursory look at their Tristan offerings. Maybe they like to ensure that the artists involved are good and dead before declaring their work worthy. ;)

Living or still-active singers, or their labels, are more likely to cease-and-desist them. I don’t know if that’s the reason but I’ve always kind of assumed it had something to do with it.

      • I thought of that too. But they offer a major label recording like the Karajan Tristan with Vickers/Dernesch.

It’s not the studio recording though, right? All the OD stuff is live.

          • Oh you’re right. I assumed that was the studio recording based on the near-identical cast. That does explain things.
