Re #10: Ouch!
He is one of the most erratic singers around-- he can sound excellent and terrible within the same Act.
Any updates regarding the Prima of Dutchman tonight?
So far according the MET website, the cast looks intact.
#11 I fixed it for you:
He is one of the most erratic singers around– he can sound excellent and terrible within the same PHRASE.
I don’t really mind Giordani’s erratic type singing. He reminds me a little bit of Nicolai Gedda, a singer I really loved but who had a pretty ungainly way of singing. He often like he was using a different way of producing the sound for each note. But he was a great favorite of mine and I pretty much listen the same way to MG, subtract out the wayward notes here and there.
Richard, it’s very interesting that you compare Giordani with Gedda. Giordani was the guest of a radio opera show in Italy a couple of weeks ago, and basically for one hour he talked almost only about Gedda, his favorite tenor, and confessed that as a young student he virtually modeled his voice and interpretation over Gedda’s. I was impressed by his clear explanation of what he believes to be the difference between Italian voce mista and French voix mixte, and other complex phonological issues. He did not come across as one of those tenors who just open their mouths and sing.
#6 Well, maybe not the ONLY one…
I agree with Dawson, MG is indeed very sexy. He has a very defined masculinity. As in French we say ” il est bien dans sa peau.”
And he’s big…
And about Keith Miller we say “il est bien dans sa tête de peau.”
