Now, That AIN’T QUAINT!
Evviva il Franco Cacciatore!
That Baden Baden production is old flash in the pan. The pity is that there is no ARTE affiliate in the USA that can make their great programming and telecasts available to American televisions. Comcast or Direct TV should really strike a deal with them to offer separate subscription for arts programming on demand.
Cablevision used to have the Voom HD Network, which was several channels devoted to the arts. Gallery HD regularly broadcast complete operas, including Hoffmann from Bilbao (which I loved, with Aquiles Machado). Voom is no more.
and Ovation is no substitute.
We did get to see one opera reality TV show in Switzerland which was kind of interesting via a web stream and also the Dud(amel). Otherwise I totally agree with you. Doesn’t Europe get to see Big Love and all those other great (well used to be great) HBO shows? I would pay a few Euros to see an opera and give back some poor opera-hating European some of his/her hard-earned tax money.
I loved their doll house:
Designers, you challenge is to design an outfit out of party decorations. Use the Macy’s accessory wall thoughtfully.
My fantasy Halloween costumes. But really, how do you justify this make-up? I don’t even begin to understand it.
and just for grins:
BTW, Julia will be the next Met’s Pamina in the spring.
