The Turandot chat
Tonight’s chat during tonight’s season premiere of Turandot from the Met begins at 7:30 pm.
Special feature of tonight’s chat: a commenter chosen at random will be awarded the new Cecilia Bartoli Sacrificium CD. The selection will be made (randomly, as I said) from the total pool of comments, which means, the more often you comment, the higher your chance of being randomly selected. The usual contest-type rules apply about La Cieca’s whims being final and the possibility of substitution of a different prize if the winner lives outside North America.
Comment away, my little public!
LA NOSTRA CIECA IS TRULY AMAZING = PRAISE BE TO HER AND TO HER SOURCES FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR PARTERRE TO BE EVER VIGILANT.
PS – You can give my copy of the new Bartoli CD to some needy Castrato.
ah maggy!
former concertmaster Nick Eanet can be heard in his debut concerts as first violinist of the Juilliard Quartet this month, btw
RAMEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s time to go
Does the chorus sound really muffled to everyone else? What an odd mic placement.
I am always shocked at Giordani’s utter lack of lower register. If he doesn’t have these E-flats now, I guess we should prepare for the low Ds in Nessun Dorma to not even phonate …
Every time I listen to Turandot , I am reminded ..that this is one of the few Operas I really…despise… …for the most part…
The broadcast sound is kind of distorted tonight. So much for getting wobbily sopranos out of the chorus, hun?
Yeah, when you think of it Sam Ramey’s been in front of the public for a long time now. Years pass by quickly. Maybe time for him and Plishka to hang it up.
Ramey was pretty bad in Don GIovanni last season. He’s probably reaching the end.
TURANDOT has an interesting sonority and harmonic mood. Too bad the first half hour is so full of perfunctory choral writing.
I see we have two chat threads.
