the beautiful regie is empty
Our most recent Regie puzzler was telecast tonight, but La Cieca thinks her cher public will need no more than a sound clip and a review from the production to make the identity of the work plain:
Friedrichstadtpalast meets Christopher Street Day: Alles, was hier nicht glitzert, ist nackte Haut.
And now for something completely different (visually speaking, at least):

A reminder: if you recognize the production, don’t blurt it out!
manon lescaut? lohengrin?
My guess is “Ariadne auf Nexos”
1.) The Tenor threatening the Wig Maker; or, the Music Master threatening the Major Domo. The Prima Donna looking on.
2.) The Composer and Zerbinetta
3.) Ariadne at the entrance to her “cave”.
Perhaps, “Il Trittico”?
1.) “Il Tabarro”
2.) “Gianni Schicchi”
3.) “Suor Angelica”
The Mikado
Is that Rod Gilfry?
The second pic looks like Carole Farley in “Lulu”,
her Met debut ( at the age of 19 her official
home page says, which would be a neat trick since
she was born in 1946 )…she’s aged very well..
which would make the handsome young dyke at the
table, in a contemporary twist, a delicious teenage
Geschwitz into older women…. so my guess is…
“Vec Makropoulos”
It sure does look like him, thanks… was trying to place the face… Does anyone know why he suddenly stopped going by Rodney and switched to Rod??? PLEASE, TOO EASY: I switched to Rod years ago…
#35, it looks like Rodney Gilfrey and David Cangelosi but I can’t be sure. Was there something Wagnerian at Chicago or the West coast they were in together? Rheingold? St Francoise d’assise? A weird version of Fledermaus?
Rosina Daintymouth: yours is quite convincing when I looked at it.
But: something about it all makes me think Don Carlo too.
So its probably Cosi fan tutte.
And in more breaking news (as if Brokeback Mountain wasn’t enough), the Villa Trapp is being turned into a hotel. Which is gayer: knowing all the words and music to Sound of Music or an opera of Brokeback? Thank God, I’m sober! Otherwise I’d be tempted to go be “high” on a hill with a lonely goatherd.
