That’s right, it’s September 30, 2019 and Venomous Fishwife Norman Lebrecht claims this is the first time in his entire life he has heard that some people might find Turandot offensive.
UPDATE: Comments for Slipped Disc are currently disabled across the site. Whether Lebrecht did this out of spite of ignorance cannot be determined at this time.
Not that I want to send clicks to his cesspool of a site, but since he is deliberately trolling for nasty comments (“discuss, ffs”) I don’t see why the you, the cher public, shouldn’t oblige him. Only if you feel like expressing yourself on this topic, click on through.
La Cieca
James Jorden (who wrote under the names "La Cieca" and "Our Own JJ") was the founder and editor of parterre box. During his 20 year career as an opera critic he wrote for the New York Times, Opera, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America and the New York Post. He also raised his voice in punditry on National Public Radio. From time to time he directed opera, including three unsuccessful productions of Don Giovanni. He also contributed a regular column on opera for the New York Observer. James died in October 2023.
