The Bayerische Staatsoper, purveyor of fascinating video opera, continues to innovate. Beginning with their next webcast, Il trittico, the company’s live streams conducted by Kirill Petrenko will also be available on demand for a limited 24-hour period. 

The Trittico, which features Wolfgang Koch, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Yonghoon Lee, Pavol Breslik, Ermonela Jaho, Michaela Schuster, Ambrogio Maestri and Rosa Feola in a new production by Lotte de Beer, will be webcast live on December 23 beginning at 1:00 PM EST, then will be available on demand on the 24th.

La Cieca

James Jorden (who wrote under the names "La Cieca" and "Our Own JJ") was the founder and editor of parterre box. During his 20 year career as an opera critic he wrote for the New York Times, Opera, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America and the New York Post. He also raised his voice in punditry on National Public Radio. From time to time he directed opera, including three unsuccessful productions of Don Giovanni. He also contributed a regular column on opera for the New York Observer. James died in October 2023.
