Has “opera-queen culture” really burned out? Is the most nagging problem with opera right now the issue that lesbians are not invited to the party? And are works like Paul’s Case and Fellow Travelers (i.e., period pieces ending in tragedy for closeted white gay male victims) really the shape of the future? Alex Ross (not pictured) seems to think so, though the cher public may have different ideas.
