Our own Ercole Farnese (not pictured) has alerted La Cieca to a breaking story in Il Secolo XIX: Dessì diserta Genova per amore. It’s molto juicy, but for those of you who can’t keep up with the Italian, Ercole has provided a precis after the jump.

Daniela Dessì has canceled her debut in the role of Turandot scheduled for April 19 because she wants to attend the premiere of the new Woody Allen movie that features Fabio Armiliato. According to this article, she is jealous of Penelope Cruz, Armiliato’s co-star, and does not want to leave the two alone at the premiere.”

James Jorden (who wrote under the names "La Cieca" and "Our Own JJ") was the founder and editor of parterre box. During his 20 year career as an opera critic he wrote for the New York Times, Opera, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America and the New York Post. He also raised his voice in punditry on National Public Radio. From time to time he directed opera, including three unsuccessful productions of Don Giovanni. He also contributed a regular column on opera for the New York Observer. James died in October 2023.
