The month of operatic novelties continues as La Cieca indicates points of interest during the week beginning November 12.

November 12: Those of you who weren’t frightened enough by Heidi Klum‘s Halloween costume may find additional chills at Chelsea Opera’s revival of Menotti’s The Medium.

November 13:  Delve into the phenomenon of the bass-baritone at the Morgan Library’s screening of the George London documentary Between Gods and Demons.

November 14: You don’t really want to be embarrassed when your grandchildren ask, “Tell us, Pop-Pop, how was the debut of the first British countertenor to sing at the Met, Iestyn Davies, in Rodelinda,” do you?

November 15:  The countertenoring continues when Daniel Taylor‘s Theatre of Early Music presents his collaboration with soprano Deborah York in Handel arias at Weill Recital Hall.

November 16: An opera about the perils of ill-fitting leggings? That’s what La Cieca assumes is implied by the title Kommilitonen!, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies‘ new piece at the Juilliard School.

November 17: If you’ve ever felt the urge to strangle a soprano with a brassiere (and, keep in mind, by this point you’ve already been to Rodelinda), then serial-killer musical theater piece The Infernal Comedy (at BAM) should be a breath of fresh air. For you, I mean, not the soprano.

November 18: La Cieca’s avid scholarship on American pop culture indicates that vampires will be the next big thing, so stay ahead of the curve by taking in Marschner’s Der Vampyr at Liederkranz Opera Theatre.

These and many other performances are chronicled on the New York Opera Calendar.
