Am I the only person who finds her photographs more interesting than her singing?

    • basso.profundo

You absolutely, 100%, most definitely are not.

Her singing is a bit of Emperor’s New Clothes for me. But she has a vigorous fanbase that comes to her defense, most likely because she’s a really good person and is very likable, is always upbeat, is a great ambassador for opera etc.

But yeah, I’m not really impressed with her as a musician either, so you’re not alone.

I agree that her voice is perhaps not the absolute first rank, but have you listened to her “Drama Queens” CD? It is mightily impressive from a vocal standpoint; seeing her sing the repertoire live was also an incredible evening of artistry of the highest caliber. One of the (many) reasons she has such fame and a devoted fanbase is what she offers in terms of interpretive skill and charisma -- she really is a committed stage performer and a very genuine, sincere actress.

  • Oh wow I would love to see this. Wish it weren’t on a Monday night but good for her! ????????

And a fan of Da Entourage too, I see. Lol! I loved that song although the uncensored version is quite Rabelaisian.

I too find JDD to be more compelling for her musicianship and performance capabilities than for her timbre. But the same could be said for any number of singers, right?
