Cher Public

Schwahnsinn!

SchwansinnLa Cieca has the whole thing for you to listen to, cher public, as furtively recorded Sunday afternoon.

OMG what a beautifully played overture. My eyes are literally watery. Kudos to Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden. Thanks for this La C! Great way to celebrate Wagner’s Birthday. This is worth listening to with a score. Truly sublime conducting and playing.

  • Lohengrin

I will try to have time to listen (very busy the next ten days); thank You!

  • PCally

My reservations about Netrebko are out of the window. No doubt she’ll finesse some stuff and truthfully I do prefer a more shimmering tone (Mattila and Schwanewils come here) but after hearing the first act, the singing of the two leads is the most glamorous pairing I’ve heard in a while. And their straightforward interpretive style makes both characters oddly palatable in a rare way imo. The orchestra sounds unbelievable, reminding of what Abbado did with the opera in Vienna. Chorus is lovely to.

Here is the precious little video where Anna expresses her opinions about singing Wagner

From La Stampa, last sentences in article about 2016-17 seacon at La Scala: “Contrariamente all’uso, non è stato annunciata la prima del 2017. Sarà Andrea Chénier, direttore Chailly, regista Martone, in scena la Netrebko con il marito tenore, Yusif Eyvazov.”

  • Milady DeWinter

    Habe dank, Cieca!
Now this is what Lohengrin is supposed to sound like, imo -- all storybook and fabulous with a meticulous orchestral framework around the singers. Bravi!

    Thank you!

Heaps of gratitude to the anonymous donor, whomever he/she may be.

I had to listen to it twice over for that was how taken I was by the whole performance. It is an excellent role debut for both Beczala and Netrebko and they make a fine pair. Very happy to have heard this, being a devoted fan of Maestro Thielemann.

    Tausendmal Danke!!!

    • Camille

I forgot to ask: will this Lohengrin be recorded in any fashion at all?
A webcast is likely too much to hope for.

      • Lohengrin

There is a rumor that European TV channels ARTE or 3sat will broadcast it.

      • PCally

I hope so. Would love to see Netrebko sparing off with Herlitzius.

        • manou

There would be no sparing in their sparring.

  • Merci beaucoup! listening now… what a treat cher!

  • DonCarloFanatic

Thanks for this treat. I’ve listened once but intend to listen again and again.

Maybe someone here could answer this: Opera house directors claim that the cost of producing a DVD is astronomical. I understand that the royalty splits can be Byzantine, but that’s what computers are for. Is it the sound editing that’s so costly? And if so, why?
