Regiepfeffer
Among a number of very amusing guesses (bravi tutti!) at last week’s Regie quiz, our Camille actually was not too far off. No, it wasn’t Menotti, but it was a children’s opera, a new work called Mikropolis (“Die abenteuerliche Insektenoper von Christian Jost“) as performed at the Komische Oper Berlin. A more standard piece (though, obviously, in a less than standard production) follows the jump.

Clearly, this is the Nica Muhly production of Strauss’ ever-popular Der Rosenkavalier (Nica is Nico’s twin sister!
)
Photo One – Sophie directs the servants as the final preparations are made for the arrival of the silver rose-bearing knight.
Photo Two – Act three, the scene in the Inn
Photo Three – The Marschallin’s Levee; behind the bed, Octavian tries out his Mariandel disguise, while Valzachi gathers gossip at the lower left.
This is yet again another staged version of Handel’s Messiah:
1. The soprano sings “Rejoice greatly oh daughter of Zion” while the ladies in the chorus act out a celebration of an impending holiday break from a very stuffy boarding school.
2. The Hallelujah Chorus of rabbits to emphasize that this is really a part of the Easter portion of the work.
3. Acting out a Zombie fantasy, with an appropriate horn-blown hairdo, the bass sings “The trumpets shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptable, and we shall be changed.”
sorry, incorruptible.
Britten’s Midsummer Night Dream…
1. Titania and her fairies
2. Assorted forest creatures
3. Bottom awakes in Titania’s bed
Macbeth
1. The witches
2. The Scottish people
3. Lady Macbeth about to do the sleepwalking scene
This is
Haensel und Gretel
All those bunnies in the forest (also acting like bunnies from what I heard!)
Last picture: “Abends wenn ich schlafen geh”!
It’s clearly Rusalka:
1. The forest nymphs cavorting while Rusalka wishes she were a mortal.
2. The guests at the palace. They’re wearing bunny ears to signify Rusalka’s disorientation at being among mortals.
3. Rusalka tells the Prince he’ll die if she kisses him. (Though from the costume and makeup, you think he’d figure it out on his own!)
I think you’re right, though I would guess that the final pic is the Foreign Princess.
La Traviata
1. Sempre libera
2. Flora’s party
3. Act 3
