Cher Public

Intermission feature

Mesdames, messieurs, and others: here it is, your weekly chance to shine in off-topic badinage, chitchat, persiflage, raillery, repartee and small talk.

  • zinka

I apologize for us not being able to see Zinka kick her train..(we kept score)..but the sound is wonderful…

  • zinka

I really never heard this disgraceful “Under the Rainbow”…I called Margaret Hamilton and she will be melting Renee if she ever does this atroce orrendo rendition again…

    • WindyCityOperaman

      Any better?

  • Buster

Happy Birthday Lella Cuberli! Here she is as Amenaide:

Love her a lot in Mozart -- especially as Giunia, but she was a great Fiordiligi too:

I’ll never forget her Rossini Desdemona.

  • zinka

I will never let you forget my all-time favorite singer… she acted like Theda Bara…..I will keep her forever in my heart and actually can “play” her repertory, the phrasing, the tone “in my head.”

  • Satisfied

Anyone going to the Coriglianno (please excuse spell -- on phone in cab) at NY Phil tomorrow featuring Blythe? In Chicago for the weekend but might scoop up a ticket for next week if word is good.

Divina/Pasolini Medea coming to Blu-Ray in December.

No sense in paying inflated prices for a used Region 2 DVD copy on Ebay or anything like that. Realize its a pretty weird film.

  • Quanto Painy Fakor

What happened to the option/ability to post photos on Parterre?

    • phoenix

Dunno… I assumed it was my own lack of internet savvy, but I haven’t seen any single images posted in the comments recently.

…it was a slightly amusing read..

Didn’t Mr. Woolfe TOTALLY leave out mention of one character…. ??-- what happened to..ZACARIAH..( the High Priest of Israel..?)

    • Quanto Painy Fakor

I guess when one needs a word like Ziggurat one searches things like Babylonia.

This is a no-smoking hotel, no Ziggurats allowed.

  • aulus agerius

I think this is a very funny clip:

Joan Destroys the World in Three Notes

  • “Ziggurat me, big boy!”

  • Buster

Denise Duval on Poulenc -- fabulous!

    • Quanto Painy Fakor

This Duval video is so special. Thank you for finding it. I wonder if there is more of it somewhere. Does anyone know the source of this program?

  • Matthew Polenzani ROCKED as Hoffman! Totally fabulous broadcast tonight from LOC! Way to go Chicago.

  • zinka

Ever see this??I think it is adorable….

  • Satisfied

Just back to my hotel after the Lyric’s opening night performance of Hoffmann. Polenzani, after some time to warm up, was remarkable. Quite a pleasant surprise that he so easily managed this daunting role. The rest of the cast I found to be adequate, if hardly exemplary. Except Emily Fons, that is: such a promising new talent!

Speaking of pleasant surprises: who knew that the Lyric gave out canapés pre-performance and during intermissions. My partner and I couldn’t help but to think that the Lyric actually cares about their audience!

    Anyone else there tonight?

    • brooklynpunk

It sounded..mainly -- quite good- on the ‘puter…except that WFMT has a horrible internet feed/stream..

Anna Christy sounded.. like one would have to be in the House, before I dare say how horrible she sounded, on the radio…( it might have been one of those..”you had to be there” performances?)

There was a lovely intermission tribute to Renata Tebaldi…..

Polenzani did sound very very GOOD..!

      • WindyCityOperaman

It seems as if the live Lyric broadcasts sound better than the rebroadcasts during the summer -- found this out when the 2010 Ballo was rebroadcast with the enter third act scene one missing. I thought the whole enterprise sounded a bit rough, but I’ll give the minidisc a playback.

BTW, WFMT will rebroadcast the Muti Otello CSO concert performance next Sunday on the 9th.

  • zinka

Kudos and cuddles to dear La Cieca for that great new feature, highlighting new recordings..I ordered the Pape and the porno star..I mean basso….for the cover only.

I had already pre-ordered the new Calleja….and this is a dear dear guy…One of the most wonderful persons you could ever know….If you call him “Mr.Calleja,” he says, “Call me Joe.” He is like Villazon and Tebaldi in naturalness and friendship….

This has JUST started on WDR on line… thought it might be of interest, as we don’t often get to hear this work….
