On wings of Regie

regie_05_16_01Finally, finally La Cieca devised a Regie quiz that really put the cher public on their mettle, and in fact, the only one of you even to narrow in on the right answer was 79CXR, whose wild guesses included a direct hit. The opera was Handel’s Hercules, as directed for the Luzerner Theater by Dominique Mentha. Now that your mental muscles are nicely warmed up, try to figure this one out.

A meta-production on Don Giovanni. First pic, the director anticipates the critics about the production laying an egg, while we understand that Zerlina is flighty. Second pic, catalogue area, with Leparello sadistically torturning Elvira with the numbers. Third pic, Elvira drag-ging her ass in to urge Giovanni one last time to repent. His angel wings suggests a post-hell redemption because god loves a good joke.

Hey there Manou, I hope youir visit from your grandchild was a fun day.

Apologies for spreading my home life all over this blog! I was trying to see whether we could put together some form of chat – which we eventually did. The baby came and went and supplied the odd gurgle to the chat.

      • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

DANGER SIGNAL – - – - I thought stuff in Chat Room disappeared forever. I said some personal stuff too that I don’t want spread about. I also said some nice things about people in a moment of weakness.

It’s all gone pfft in cyberspace…maybe some spotty nerd is reading it as we speak – wondering what the hell is going on. There was only THREE of us there anyway – and we would never ruin your reputation by spreading rumours about you being a big softie.

Bluesweet is just teasing me because I wrote on this blog about my baby grandson turning up unexpectedly.

        • manou says:

As for Operacat – only one word of warning for him : *neutering*.

        • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

Where did you see Operacat? I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for him to contact me for the free stuff I’m giving away and not one word so far.

        • Babs, if you are giving away free stuff and the cat doesn’t want it, I’ll take one for the team.

        • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

I’ll talk to you about it offline. Ask La Cieca how we handle that.

        • manou says:

Betsy – the Cat is on a Hot Tin Roof.

      • Bluessweet says:

Not teasing at all. I have a few of my own and my SO always is delighted to see hers. When they get older, they get busy and have friends of their own. Just try to let them see the beauty of opera. My struggle in that regard has mostly been a failure.

I knew you meant it kindly – BABs was having one of her turns and I wanted to reassure her!

My granddaughters (5 and 3) are devoted to Elisir d’Amore (the Villazon/Netrebko live DVD) – and they sing it too, in hilarious macaroni Italian.

Here is video from the same production:

  • LogeLizard says:

    How about SEMELE?

  • soubrettino says:

Naughty QPF, I almost thought that video was REALLY from the prod.

    I venture: Orphée aux enfers.

On another note: happy birthday Bubbles!

Off topic but interesting item in the Sunday Times, UK: Domingo faces operatic revolt by British Siegfried

By the way, BAB, I went to the Vale of Shame market on Union Square here in SF this morning to buy Cold Oatmeal of Regret, but they were sold old. We must never doubt the power of Parterre.

    • Harry says:

That photo of the clumsy, funny over-sized bulky pants the L.A Siegfried is wearing ….I was thinking where in the hell…have I seen them before? Then it struck me. Remember the big baggy vaudevillian pants young Gypsy Rose wears in the stage back alley scene of Gypsy during the

  • Melot's Younger Brother says:

I have no idea what this is, but don’t cast John Treleaven in it.

  • non so nulla says:

    Must be The Mikado:

    1. Yum-Yum sings “the sun whose rays are all ablaze”
    2. The Lord High Executioner (with his little list) and Pitti-Sing recount Nanki-Poo’s imaginary execution
    3. Katisha renounces both her wig and her claim on Nanki-Poo, who has been revealed as the son of the Mikado (indicated by the wings).

  • Often admonished says:

In the meantime check this clip about Glyndebourne’s Billy Budd: not silly, not controversial, just a load of theatricals trying to get across the creators’ message.

you see, it can be done.
