    Alexei Steblianko was Bezukhov. The program says that he joined the Kirov in 1976 and he indeed sounds old. Imagine a very old Heppner cracking again and again. And it’s a long role.

    Hard to keep track of who was who. Kutuzov wasn’t totally bad but I kept hoping for Sam Ramey, huge wobble and all. At least Ramey brough some real presence to the role.

    Steblianko was a force to be reckoned with 20+ years ago. I think it was as Herman that I saw him when the Kirov/Maryinsky visited London, a visit that also introduced Leiferkus, who was superb as Tomsky and (I think) Onegin.
