In my pet pailleted Regie
Several of you guessed correctly that our most recent Regie quiz was La fanciulla del West, in the “leather bar” production by Nikolaus Lehnhoff for De Nederlandse Opera. After the jump, a look at more of this production in action.
Even from still photos, it’s obvious there’s quite a bit of action in the following production too! (Remember, cher public, guesses only! If you know the production, hush!)

javier – I thought you were talking about the video of Simone Kermes in concert on another thread.
Perhaps the current actions now are a way of “protesting too much,” then….
The second photo reminded me of a Milhaud opera, Le Pauvre Matelot, that I once saw in New York. But this is definitely Un Ballo in Maschera:
Photo One: Ulrica’s brews up a magic potion (although most of the guests are there seeking magical herbs for weight loss).
Photo Two: The Act 2 Love Duet
Photo Three: At the drag Masked Ball, Renato taunts Oscar and Oscar’s companion as he delivers the fatal blow to his one-time fried Riccardo
Must be ‘Death in Venice’.
1. Aschenbach finds the Elderly Fop and his friends rather disturbing.
2. On his wanderings around Venice, Tadzio pauses in front of Pronuptia and tries to guess whether Aschenbach’s intentions are honorable.
3. In the final scene on the Lido Tadzio and his friend wrestle (right) whilst a mute Death Figure approaches Aschenbach (left) who, acting on fashion tips from the Hotel Barber, has donned a fetching silver foil gown for the occasion.
If they’re out of order, could it be Falstaff? The first picture is the final scene in the forest, the second photo is Nanetta and Fenton, and the third is something with Alice Ford, Meg Page, and perhaps Falstaff’s two henchmen in a newly discovered scene by Verdi.
Les Troyens
1. Trojan women commit suicide
2. Aeneas leaves Dido
3. Who knows? who cares?
3. During “Je vais mourir”, Didon decides that she’s not the only one who’s gonna die and attempts to off Narbal while Anna holds her back.
