So, which composer wants to jump on this peach of a libretto?
“The Met’s fund-raising office had kept in touch with Ms. Webster since then. It sent her books about the birds of Central Park; a volume called Red-Tails in Love: A Wildlife Drama in Central Park.”
Pity Messiaen’s dead.
Not Ricky Ian Gordon (although his next work for the Met is going to be amazing, I’ve heard bits and pieces that for a potential 2011 premiere), so maybe John Corigliano and Mark Adamo can do their first opera together, loosely depiciting their own New York love story.
Can’t wait for the casting proposals for the leads. One shrieking Soprano and one shrieking tenor coming right up.
Maybe sell it as a Magic Flute spin off – “Papageno and Papagena ‘lay eggs’”
didn’t they just do “the birds” in LA recently? i heard the beginning of this on the radio. wasn’t too interesting.
of course, any ornithopera might have to ask me to sing it, since i was well known (and rightly acclaimed if i may) as the rossignol di milano. just ask captain haddock.
Girls, girls, girls! How can you miss such an obvious, if unintentional, triple (quadrupal ?) entendre: red tails in Central Park?
I’m sure there will be a major role for our Squirrel and his nuts.
I can see it now – Love on The Ledge.
I hope Julie Taymor is available to direct this.
If not (and surely that would be only because Spider-Man still hadn’t opened), then William Kentridge.
Maybe Basil Twist in a pinch.
So, anyway, I knew this old lady and I had heard she was rich or something, and I guessed she didn’t have too much time left..you know…so I, like, bought her books and shit; you gotta look after these people – and keep a sharp eye out to see if the milk bottles are being collected from the front step. Because, you know, if they’re not, then that’s payday….
