all in the family

In a startling and sudden transition from high to pop culture, the Bayreuther Festspiele GmbH has announced they are producing a television film about their recent changeover in leadership to a partnership between half-sisters Eva Wagner-Pasquier and Katharina Wagner.  Casting for the film is just what you might have expected.

  • MontyNostry says:

Katharina — who is not nearly as pretty as her official publicity photos — has pornstar fingernails.

    PERFECT casting! Genius!

  • Scott Rose says:

Those not patient enough to wait for the TV show described in this post can watch a live stream of Tristan from Bayreuth on August 9.

Monty – are those the fingernails of a pornstar? I know so little of the genre – but I sure wouldn’t want to be fisted by her.

I see that next year Bayreuth is going to mount a special production of Fliegender Holländer, shortened to one hour “for children”. “Come, little Gretchen, Papa is going to take you to see an opera about a man who for jewels sells his young daughter into marriage with a man he doesn’t know and at the end she is so distraught she kills herself.” for children? What message are they trying to convey? What were they thinking??

Let’s not all be too sensitive about “the children.” Many classic fairy tales are pretty high on the gruesome factor too.

And it depends on how old the children are, too, no? 5th/6th graders have probably seen a whole lot worse, including virtual disembowelment and alien impregnation.
