treat!
Un petit oiseau (dans la charmille) has just whispered to La Cieca that mythic diva Madame Vera Galupe-Borszkh will emerge briefly from semi-retirement on Halloween night as a surprise guest during the Sirius broadcast of La traviata from the Met. To avoid any confusion, La Cieca should note that “La Dementia” will not be singing the role of Violetta that evening (Anja Harteros will perform as usual), but the Ukrainian Nightingale will grace the broadcast booth for an interview with Margaret Juntwait. The yakking will begin at approximately 10:00 pm EDT during the second intermission of the Verdi tearjerker.

and to the pathetic troll who ripped Ira and Vera, you have no sense of humor and should be forced to listen to Renee and Anna Netrebko at full volume for 72 hours non-stop (torture they first started implementing in Guantanamo Bay last year)
WHERE ARE THE GREAT TRAUMATIC SOPRANOS TODAY??
OK guys, we need to cool it, homicidal_emily has a right to her opinion, whether we might agree with it or not. If she does not find Madame vera funny, so what? Not everyone will have the same sense of humor.
When I said I didn’t find Famous Quickly’s humor funny I was ripped in all directions, but the fact is that I (ME, I, MOI, IO) did not find her funny while other people thought she is a riot; what is so wrong with that?
I will agree that homicidal_emily crossed the line in expressing her distaste in words that were insulting (to say the least) to the artist who portraits Vera, not at the diva herself and that is open to criticism. Her stating the fact that she does not find Madame Vera funny should remain off limits to us, it’s her opinion and this is a forum to share opinions; if not the posts will me mostly “me too…”
Paddy, there are no Traumatic sopranos anymore, just Traumatized sopranos and Sopranos giving traumatic experiences (and PTSD) all over the world.
Isn’t that a shame?
Long live Madame Vera, the last on her class!
Lauren Flanegan has a touch of the traumatic soprano about her though.
RE: La Dementia, I think that title was already taken. When Stratas did IL TRITTICO I dubbed her Suor Dementia.
Homocidal Emily didn’t cross any lines as far as I’m concerned. But it’s too bad that she insists on so much hyperbole, which I find to be useless and a big YAWN. It adds nothing to the conversation, except for drawing attention to herself (which is probably her chief concern).
As for Juntwait, I like her much more now. She had a rough first year, where she had that perennial smile in her voice, making everything sound like she was giving a recipe for salad dressing. She has improved and the arrangment with Ira Siff works very well. I wish it were more free-form and less scripted, since Siff has so much to offer. But I still like it.
Speaking of Un petit oiseaux dans la charmille, has everyone seen Wenarto’s Doll Song on Youtube?
Speaking of Lauren Flanigan, I noticed the other night, reading my program, that she is listed on the Met roster this year. Hasn’t sung there in years. But I haven’t seen any listing of WHAT she’s singing. Could she just be covering something? Anybody have info?
Well let’s see, maybe she is covering Violetta!
