What looks to be the Next Big Thing coming from the Met: offering their audio and video content for download a la iTunes. La Cieca is not clear on the details of this new program, but a job listing has just gone up on metopera.org for a Digital Producer who will be responsible for the web interface for “Met Digital subscription and rental sales.”

Why Cieca, this seems like a natural job for you!

  • Fritz says:

There is another job listing on the Met website which might appeal to readers of this blog. They call it Administrative Associate (Artistic), and among the listed duties are to: “Follow-up to auditions – answer requests for comments, send ‘no’ letters.” Think of it, writing “no” letters for a living.

I don’t know where to post this so I’ll do it here. The Canadian Opera Company announced this morning that it has hired 34-year-old Alexander Neef to take over as the General Director after the sudden death of Richard Bradshaw. Neef was previously Gerard Mortier’s No. 2 guy at the Paris Opera. Anyone have any opinions on this guy?

Hiring a young leader for a company with a brand-new opera house seems like a great idea. The city of Toronto has high hopes.

Oops, I meant to post this link:

    Kashania:

I wonder if this will get the invading Brits off the hook for now; …and will Canadian posters start decrying the take-over of COC by Krauts and Huns?

The only thing that made me nervous was reading that Neef had a working relationship with Pina Bausch (oy..)

  • DirkVA says:

Interesting that Neef was hired “because he is young.” That is supposedly illegal in the U.S. (though we know it happens all the time).

Wasn’t the NYCO expecting him to come there with Mortier, or am I confused?

  • brooklynpunk says:

    DirkVA:

There had been strong talk that Mortier would be bringing Neef to CityOpera with him, as the two worked together at Paris Opera…guess not, now….

  • DirkVA says:

I understand Neef has already been working on NYCO casting.

  • robert says:

So Neef gets a company on the way up and a new opera house, and Mortier gets . . . Susan Baker?
