According to a review by Vivien Schweitzer in this morning’s NYT, the staid old Metropolitan Opera introduced a rather startling new plot element into their current revival of Entführung aus dem Serail:

Hmm… Wasn’t Diana Damrau talking, on a recent Met broadcast, about other productions she’d done, in which Konstanze was attracted to the pasha? She did say the character was more interesting that way…
i saw that Entführung production!! (if it is the same) i know it premiered with damrau, although i saw it with a different cast. the regie was by cristof loy (whom i adore and who´s last cosi fan tutte, also in frankfurt is the most beautiful thing i have ever ever seen (5 times LOL) in my life).
Konstanze didn´t “give in” but there was quite a level of sexual tension. but also very subtle. It was a great production too.
