I was in the house yesterday and I thought she sang beautifully, with a secure and healthy voice... and did not move me one bit. I kept asking myself: Why is she singing that? Does she really have...
Yes, the same production (which I LOVE, BTW) : the production is tailored for Asmik.
Agree. Fridman has a distinctive voice and a lot of personality and she can still develop (she is only 29). No wonder she is getting so much attention in Italy. I wish she would sing in France...
Aargh I hope it goes well but I wouldn't be advising Amneris at this (or perhaps any) point. Would be delighted to be proved wrong though. I'm crossing my fingers for the Carmen, it...

I was in the audience. I found RWS impressive, but I'm not a Bellini expert. The tenor's higher notes were exciting, but "grainy" lower down. Some boos for the director.

It;s a shame the timing and $$ did not work out, as it truly one of the great roles - especially for someone no longer in the “bloom of youth.” I find it interesting that the role of Cervantes/Don...

I really enjoyed hearing the instrumental detail, especially the exquisite writing for woodwinds all the way through tonight's excellent performance of Luisa Miller, more clearly than usual...

I remember that production so well - and yes the evening belonged to Sciutti. I had seen her two years previously in Il Turco in Italia at Glyndebourne and it was the same story. She had that...

Carnival has an opera connection besides Albergetti. The 2nd national tour was headed my Elaine Melvin. Besides having been Marsinah in the original West End production of Kismet and singing...

Thank you for posting these recordings! In my mid 20s, I had the good fortune to portray Paul in a local theatre production. it was my first (and almost only) time playing a romantic lead, and it...
