Next season I’m excited for Hérodiade
Finally, finally, a change to see Massenet‘s Hérodiade, albeit in concert from, though I long for a day when the Met or the Lyric Opera of Chicago would give us a staged performance.
I note that the up-and-coming spectacular bass-baritone Le Bu will sing Phanuel, and Clémentine Margaine will sing the title role. I can’t wait for their barnstorming duet, especially as Hérodiade must hit a high B (my goodness, that role has a high tessitura for a mezzo). I hope she takes the alternative high B flat at the end as Vejzovic and Zajick did (La Gorr took the written high G). Too bad there is no curtain to pull down at the end or stairs to fall down at the end of that duet.
