Patrizia Ciofi should have made it to the Met

The artist who I feel should have made it to the Met is Patrizia Ciofi.

I discovered her on a DVD of a performance of La traviata from La Fenice. I was totally mesmerized by her. She is the total package, a wonderful singer and a very compelling actress.

I remember watching it and my ex partner (who’s not an opera fan at all) came in during the final scene and said, “who is that singer?” and sat down and wanted to watch the whole opera with me — he was that taken with her performance.

I have watched all of her performances on YouTube, but unfortunately, I’ve never seen her live. The clip I included is from her famous performance of Lucie de Lammermoor. She also has a great performance as Lucia from Orange with Villazon in his prime.

Her voice may have been too small for the Met — I don’t know, but I certainly would’ve loved to have the opportunity to see her perform there. She is a truly great artist.
