A favorite Verdi performance from Krunoslav

Much as I love the Abbado Deutsche Grammophon studio set, this 1980 San Francisco Opera live Simon Boccanegra under Lamberto Gardelli has an emotional punch.

Renato Bruson and Margaret Price are phenomenal. The post-Met Siepi and, despite some pitch issues, Giorgio Lamberti also very well cast. I heard all eight of the soloists here, six of them in Verdi roles.
