Elly Ameling and Dalton Baldwin in Mörike Lieder is an amazing emotional roller coaster of a listen. I was very young when I first heard this recording – absolute therapy for my adolescent melancholia. You listen to the exultant joy of “Er Ist’s!” incredibly conveyed by Ms. Ameling and Mr. Badwin, followed by “Das verlassene Mägdlein,” and you end up shattered. Not that they couldn’t be playful, the remarkably sung “Elfenlied” and “Das Knabe und Immlein.” Thanks to Elly Ameling, I made it through college.
