Of the numerous debuts scheduled to take place at the Met next season, worth noting are Erika Grimaldi‘s two performances as Mimì in April. Grimaldi is a favorite of conductor Gianandrea Noseda who has brought her to New York in the past and will return with her in May when the embattled National Symphony Orchestra brings all of Il trittico to Carnegie Hall in May. Though exactly which roles Grimaldi will take on remains to be announced; her website indicates that Giorgetta and Suor Angelica are “in preparation,” as is Nella in Schicchi.
She is partnered here by Luciano Ganci in a performance recorded at the Teatro Comunale’s “Comunale Nouveau” outpost, a provisional theater used while their home venue in the center of Bologna undergoes restoration, in January 2024. The re-opening of the Comunale’s historic theater has been pushed back yet again to February 2027. The conductor, Ukranian Oksana Lyniv, made her debut at the Met last season leading Turandot. She will return to conduct Tosca in November.
