Tenor Anthony León, who turned 29 just last week, has had an extraordinary start to his career with first-place wins at Operalia in 2022, the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in 2023, and a Richard Tucker Career Grant in 2024.

He just finished a run as Ferrando in Così fan tutte — a role about which the late Patrick Mack said last year, “this in all probability the most beautiful and graceful Mozart tenor voice I’ve ever heard live” — at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. After WCO’s Pêcheurs, he returns to his native California for performances as Fenton in LA Opera’s Falstaff before heading to Glyndebourne where he sings as Belmonte opposite the Kostanze of Liv Redpath in a revival of David McVicar’s production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

Today, Parterre Box features Belmonte’s two arias recorded during León’s debut in the role at the Teatro Regio di Torino last fall.
