I love Victoria de los Angeles which is why I bought it originally on vinyl, but she sounds like her throat is ripping out. All in all, an ill-advised venture. Gedda has the voice and the style but sounds like he is singing to a microphone. D’Angelo is so dull as the dolll. And Schwarzkopf as Giulietta? (What were they thinking?) I have yet to find a satisfactory recording of this piece in stereo sound.
The 1965 Les contes d’Hoffmann is so overrated
All in all, an ill-advised venture.
