It may sound as wrong in French (and with recitative) as Pelléas would sound in German, but why not? German Romantic opera owes as much to opéra comique as to 18th century singspiel. And since nobody is holding their breath for a revival at the Met in the foreseeable future, I imagine quite a few of us will be at this American Symphony Orchestra concert in April.
