This summer’s production of Il trovatore in London was assailed with controversy, the least of which included Eleonora Burrato‘s withdrawal from her scheduled house (and role) debut as Leonora. This week, Parterre Box features her replacement, the summer Einspringerin Marigona Qerkezi, in some different Verdi fare.
The soprano, who describes herself as “from Kosovo born and raised in Croatia,” has gained momentum singing meaty roles like Norma, Aïda, Tosca, Abigaille, and Anna Bolena in many of Europe’s regional theaters. Today’s clip hears her as Lucrezia Contarini in a performance of I due Foscari in Piacenza last year. According to her website, she also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Staffordshire University in the UK, which means she can help with payroll, too!
