What a week its been! A Met broadcast of L’italiana in Algeri stoked the ongoing blaze of comments on Parterre about political correctness in opera, and a man who not long ago came within striking distance of being the next American president essentially justified sexual assault as noblesse oblige. Its time for some diversion, a good old-fashioned guilty pleasure: Adriana Lecouvreur with the 1970s dream cast of Montserrat Caballé, José Carreras, and Fiorenza Cossotto.
