Lyric Opera of Chicago’s newly-released financial reports for fiscal year 2015 reveal the company’s ticket sale income decreased by almost $3 million between FY 2014 and FY 2015, a drop of more than 10%. Last year the company sold $25,880,310 in tickets and spent $74,797,144 on program costs, administration and development. A highlight of LOC’s current season, as planned and executed by general director Anthony Freud (pictured) will be a revival of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette starring Eric Cutler and Susanna Phillips. James Jorden (who wrote under the names "La Cieca" and "Our Own JJ") was the founder and editor of parterre box. During his 20 year career as an opera critic he wrote for the New York Times, Opera, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America and the New York Post. He also raised his voice in punditry on National Public Radio. From time to time he directed opera, including three unsuccessful productions of Don Giovanni. He also contributed a regular column on opera for the New York Observer. James died in October 2023.
