Opera from a certain point of view. The best opera magazine on the web. Reviews, breaking news, critical essays, and brainrot commentary on opera from those demented enough to love it.
On this upcoming otherwise dreary Tuesday afternoon, La Cieca hopes the cher public will all be figuratively glued to their PCs and Macs for a live web telecast of Werther from the Opéra-Bastille. Jummy Jonas Kaufmann stars with Sophie Koch, Ludovic Tézier, and Anne-Catherine Gillet; Michel Plasson conducting. The entire event will be webcast on Arte TV as well as on the Paris Opera website.
If you miss the transmission beginning at 20:30 (i.e., 2:30 pm in New York), apparently it will be available on demand at the Arte.tv site afterward. Since Kaufmann doing anything is naturally of enormous interest to the parterriani, La Cieca will have chat facilities enabled despite the unconventional hour.
Here’s a sampling of the poet from last night’s performance.
