Carlisle Floyd, who turned 88 this year, is best known as the composer of two of the most frequently produced American operas, Susannah and Of Mice and Men. In fact, he has written nine others and is said to be fulfilling a new commission for Houston, perhaps to shame youthful quitters like Verdi and Wagner. The Little Opera Theater of New York (LOTNY) is presenting a double-cast run of two of Floyd’s early one-acts, Slow Dusk and Markheim, at 59 E 59 through December 14.   Read more »
