I finally llstened to the L’Assedio di Corinto from Pesaro. Didn’t care for the soprano, Nino Machaidze, at all but the tenor, Sergey Romanovsky, was fantastic. A real baritenor. In his extended scene beginning Act 3 I thought he must be either Spyres or Hymel. But no, I liked his timbre better than either of those 2. I hardly noticed Pisaroni.

Romanovsky was a splendid Alfredo (with Joyce El Khoury, equally good) in the venerable Richard Eyre Traviata here at Covent Garden a few months ago.

Afternoon folks! Just bought my tickets for Norma at HGO finally ????. I am going to the first two performances (the 27th and 29th of April respectively). I had planned on buying them last month as soon as they were to become available, but as we all know there was a hurricane that ploughed through there that caused massive flooding, so they only recently opened the box office and made tickets available. I really feel for them and everyone who is experiencing the wrath of Irma down in Florida right now, including my family and many of my friends. To everyone down there please stay safe!!

So the ticket prices were not as expensive as I had anticipated which was neat, although I did get Orchestra circle and Loge seats since I ain’t flying across the country to sit in the nosebleeds. Needless to say I am very excited for this. I’ve been waiting YEARS for it and I hope it’ll be amazing!!!

Does anyone have suggestions as to airfare? I’m buying the plane tickets in a few weeks. I did see on the HGO website that they’re sponsored by United but they and spirit are the two worst airlines so I will try and avoid them at all costs.

As for the Met, I definitely want to see Norma in December with Meade, Barton et al (I may just see the HD of the earlier performances with La Rad and JDD) as well as The Exterminating Angel since it’s been a while since I’ve seen/heard a new opera, Thais and maybe Magic Flute although it’s playing here in Philadelphia as well. Most of the performances I really want to see will happen later on in the winter and mostly spring.

AntiKC--I am not at all certain they fly in or out of Philly (I presume), but if they do — I would suggest Jet Blue as they are highly reliable and amenable. You may listen to the Sirius Met broadcast while flying as well. Be careful within Houston: it’s big and sweaty — and good luck.

Thanks Camille. I’ll keep an eye out for Jet Blue flights. They have very comfortable seats…I’ve only flown with them once or twice and I did have a bad experience with a bag I checked once. It was damaged pretty badly although I’m not sure if it was the airport baggage handlers who did that. It probably was. And don’t worry, I’m used to sweaty. I basically grew up in a sauna also known as south Fla.

I never get my flight tickets more than 90 days prior and usually much closer to departure. I think there is no advantage to spending your $$$ earlier. On another note I’m coming to Philadelphia this weekend for O17 -- Elizabeth Cree and the Radvanovsky recital, both at or near sellout I believe.

Thanks for your input. I’m definitely going to wait to buy the flight tickets since the performances are over 7 months away (unfortunately ????). I’d Iike to attend both of those as well. Let me see if I can get tickets and if so will let you know ????.
