Jungle booking

georgeLa Cieca has it on good authority that the new music director for the Santa Fe Opera will be Frédéric Chaslin (not pictured), who will preside over a 2011 season featuring Faust, La Boheme, Vivaldi’s Griselda, Wozzeck, and (you guessed it) The Last Savage.

Operabase doesn’t list anything for EBB after her January appearance in The Nose. How can that be? Surely, she must be in demand somewhere.

    • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

If she’s hired as a cover, she is not free to accept out-of-town work that might interfere. From the way she sounds, she may be using the time to work on her voice, because she’s good ! After tonight, she just might see some of those blanks filled in.

      • CruzSF says:

I agree, she’s sounding pretty good. She did start (understandably, and at least to my ears) a little wobbly but boy did she warm up fast.

Well, I can tell you this, I have a mutual friend with EBB who spoke
with her two hours ago and she had no idea of any prob. with Dessi.
So it surely was very last minute. But she’s been in the house for
weeks, thru all the previous Tosca stuff, was seen in the Manager’s
box at Racette’s debut etc. So, she’s very ready and she sounds
practiced and authoritative. The next act will tell the tale.
All this, and Lori Philips coming on for Voigt and singing a lot
better and more in tune than D. V. Quite a good week for the
second string. I am glad EBB and Lori P both got their chance.
Both are good; we should hear more of them.
The life of a singer ain’t easy.

    • CruzSF says:

Right. I guess all the commenters who want to hear the covers instead of fill-in stars need to listen during the last 2 weeks of the (Sirius) season.

      • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

Peter Gelb and Henrietta Bagginfriend need to be listening. (I can’t remember their names, but you know who I mean.)

  • rommie says:

the last interview i heard was valenti talking about his looks…van rensburg seems really intelligent.. too intelligent in fact that this interviewer chick had to shift to fucking Armida

    • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

It’s nice to know he can fall back on being a chef, because his singing left a lot to be desired.

  • Clita del Toro says:

I wanted to hear Dessi, but now I am glad EBB is singing. I almost turned the opera off when they made the announcement.

Meister writes: “He’s disappointing tonight; all he’s got is a very loud top.
    Ugh.”

    So what else is new?

  • Guys, do we want to go the the chat room? I will hope Cieca cara will not mind:

    • CruzSF says:

I have to duck out after Act II because of a concert tonight. But you all go ahead if you prefer the chat room.

    • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

Honestly, I prefer this format, but I’m open to suggestion. Often, to my detriment.

  • Clita del Toro says:

Girls, let’s do a Tosca chat for Act II ?????

  • Quanto Painy Fakor says:

BRAVA Blanke Biggs!!!! How great that they let her go on tonbight. I only just got the news and tuened in just as Jonas was launching into Vittoria. I’m very happy that Peter Gelb finally let EBB onstage in something that will show the talent she has. May G’d be with her as the performance progresses.

    • bassoprofundo says:

That would be Giordani launching into Vittoria.

I’m listening, too, not impressed at all with her. Doesn’t she know there is a big difference between “vedi” and “vidi”?
