If that PHUQUER negotiated that salary on his own he is a fucking genius. I’m raising my prices. It’s really sort of sickening.

If I were Zarin Mehta, I’d be really pissed at my board.

Now now – Gelb has actually cut his salary twice this year, and he made heaps more in the corporate world. I mean, this is the Met – arguably the most important opera company in the world. Think about the money he has to raise, and the abuse he takes from the likes of us – I am not sure anyone would take his job for less.

  • Note with accompanying article:
    “Correction: April 26, 2010

This article has been revised to correct the references to the compensation of Peter Gelb and of the top executives at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The chart accompanying the article has been revised to include updated figures for the compensation of Zarin Mehta and correct the year for the salary figures given for Timothy Rub and George Steel.”

When I saw the article this morning it had Mehta’s salary at around twice Gelb’s, but now it says $808,000.
