Bitter to the sweet

damrau_fille_thumbLa Cieca just heard that Diana Damrau has canceled her engagement in Hamlet with the Washington National Opera. Heading the “star-studded” cast for this production will now be Liam Bonner / Michael Chioldi, TBA, Samuel Ramey, Elizabeth Bishop and John Tessier.

….or it could be because she’s pregnant and/or going through a vocal crisis because of it.

  • javier says:

how far along is she? i haven’t enjoyed any of her singing for about year now. that must be the longest pregnancy ever.

  • Sanford says:

I’m officially changing my name to TBA, so that I will be on rosters everywhere. I used to want to change my name to Anon. so that I would have written a lot.

  • Hans Lick says:

Sanford, what will they do if you (TBA) show UP?

    #20:
Huh? I thought that those Maries at the MET were fantastic.

#7 -one can only 2nd. your comment
perhaps this season is the end of that clap trap opera. As Johnson observed
“only those at the bottom of the
musical food chain could possibly give
their time to this work “

  • CruzSF says:

wladek, did Hamlet run over your dog or something? You seem to go out of your way to badmouth it, even though we all know by now that you hate it and think it’s a waste of anyone’s time.

  • Will says:

Has Claudius been officially declared an end-career wobbly bass-baritone zone? I admire Morris and Ramey enormously for their accomplishments, but The Time really has come except perhaps for cameos like Ramey’s Leone at the MET.

As for Hamlet I was surprised, for all the carping, at how competent it was, with a couple of terrific scenes.

Sanford @23: A mate of mine is in a band called ‘Plus Support’.

    #27CruzSF- My dislike of that
ridiculous opera is of a benign
    condition -can’t imagine the dislike
I’d have for it if it did indeed run over my dog who has the most catholic taste when it comes to opera except
Hamlet -along with some stuff by
Bellini and the fellow who wrote mad
    lucy.
