In response to #22 – Betsy you are quite right about doing the Ring without the right voices but in none of the previous posts on this thread had I seen much about the voices or casting – only about how the production was going to create problems. That is what I was referring to.
Oh good, willym, you’re back.
On this thread, maybe so, but a bunch of parterrians have been beating their plowshares into tuning forks ever since the casting was first announced.
Betsy, I’m heading up to Milan on the 13th – or at least hope I am – to catch the opening of the new Ring cycle there. Barenboim conducting – meh… – Pape as Wotan which should be interesting and Belgian director Guy Cassiers staging – again could be interesting particularly after the bizarre Tannhauser there last month which I reviewed for Opera Britannia.
